Fall Out Boy is trying to “Save Rock and Roll”

March 30, 2013

falloutboyFall Out Boy is trying to “Save Rock and Roll.” I’m not exactly sure what that means, but according to Consequence Of Sound, it’s the title of the band’s upcoming album (which is scheduled to be released May 7).

Before you allstart laughing hysterically at the idea of a band like Fall Out Boy to make such claims to “save rock and roll,” let’s take minute to come up with a few ideas to what it could mean. Before making complete judgments, keep in mind that some bands try to make huge claims before albums and tours, similar to what Fall Out Boy has done with its album title. In 2011, New Found Glory called its tour the “Pop Punks Not Dead Tour” (regardless of what you think of a band, it is hard for almost any band to say something like that and represent a genre).

So with that out of the way, here is my list of guesses why Fall Out Boy has named its album “Save Rock And Roll.”

1. Fall Out Boy has had mainstream success and thinks it can make an album that will sell well.
2. Fall Out Boy could try to bring more mainstream attention to the genre. Or inversely, they don’t know about albums from bands like these, these, these, and the many albums that are coming out of the rock genre.
3. Fall Out Boy is looking to bring a lot of attention to the album.
4. Fall Out Boy is trying to be funny.
5. Fall Out Boy is actively trying to tick off rockers.
